ou may have consulted a respiratory therapist but are unsure of their role. We’re here to shed light on this profession, which is at the heart of our clinics.
What is a respiratory therapist?
A respiratory therapist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the cardiorespiratory system. They intervene in various situations, such as emergency cases (cardiac arrest) or in treating respiratory conditions like asthma. They diagnose and treat respiratory disorders, provide comprehensive follow-ups on a patient’s cardiorespiratory health, and offer at-home care, rehabilitation, and respiratory therapy for people with chronic conditions. They may also be part of community healthcare teams (CLSCs, etc.).
This profession is practiced in a variety of settings, including emergency rooms, intensive care units, specialized clinics, and neonatal units.
In general, respiratory therapists work in three main sectors:
- General and specialized cardiorespiratory care
- Diagnostic care
- Anesthesia
Why see a respiratory therapist in our clinics?
Our respiratory therapists specialize in the treatment of sleep apnea but can also assist with other sleep disorders. If you suffer from a sleep disorder, our team is here to help.
What do respiratory therapists do in our clinics?
To provide you with the best possible care, our respiratory therapists guide you from evaluation to treatment of sleep apnea. They perform various tests available in our clinics, which help healthcare professionals establish a diagnosis.
Our Blainville clinic also has a sleep laboratory, allowing for overnight monitoring. Once the tests are completed, the results are sent to our pulmonologist for interpretation. The final report is then forwarded to your doctor or referring healthcare provider, who will prescribe the appropriate treatment for your condition.
If you suspect you have sleep apnea or have any questions, feel free to contact us at info@csrsommets.ca or 1-877-744-0416. Our team is here to support you throughout the process.
