What Is Light Therapy?

Light therapy is a non-medicated treatment that involves exposing the eyes to artificial light with an intensity and spectrum similar to natural sunlight. It is widely recognized for treating seasonal depression but can also help with insomnia, jet lag, and even general depression.

To benefit from light therapy, it is recommended to expose yourself to the light daily, ideally in the morning, for about 30 minutes. During sessions, you can continue with regular activities such as reading, watching TV, or using your phone, as long as your face remains exposed to the light. It is advised to start treatment in the fall, when daylight decreases, and continue until spring. Some effects may be felt after the first session, but for optimal results, treatment should last at least four weeks.
