If you suspect that you have a sleep disorder (such as sleep apnea, insomnia, or narcolepsy), it is important to discuss it with your doctor. After your consultation, your doctor may prescribe a sleep test to be conducted in a sleep clinic. Once you receive your prescription—whether for a home test or an in-clinic study—simply contact us!
If your test is conducted in our Blainville Sleep Laboratory, here’s what to expect:
- You will be welcomed by a respiratory therapist at the sleep laboratory between 9 PM and 10 PM.
- The therapist will complete a medical questionnaire with you to assess your lifestyle and overall health.
- You will then be settled into your private sleep room for the night. Our rooms are designed to be comfortable and home-like, helping you relax and fall asleep. Many people worry about sleeping outside their home, but rest assured, nearly all of our patients eventually drift off!
- The respiratory therapist will attach multiple sensors to your head, face, and body. While this may seem overwhelming at first, you’ll adjust quickly! This setup process usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.
- Once the test begins, the respiratory therapist will monitor your sleep throughout the night from their office. Your room will be equipped with microphones and an infrared camera, allowing you to communicate with the therapist if needed. If you need to get up or experience any discomfort, assistance is available at all times. You are never alone.
- The evaluation ends when you leave the clinic between 5 AM and 7 AM, depending on how your night progresses. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom and shower, so you can freshen up before heading out.
After the test
Our team analyzes your sleep data, which is then interpreted by our pulmonologist. The final report is sent to the healthcare professional who requested your test.
That’s it! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out—our team is here to guide and reassure you throughout the process. After all, one night could change your life!
