wo types of water are recommended for your CPAP water chamber: demineralized water or distilled water. Be careful—bottled drinking water does not fall into these two categories. You can usually find these types of water in grocery stores, pharmacies, and our clinics. Learn more in this short video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT7RfHk_18s
Demineralized or distilled water, as the name suggests, is free of minerals. The minerals found in regular water can cause premature wear and tear on your water chamber when heated. Most CPAP water chambers are made of aluminum, and minerals do not mix well with aluminum.
Contrary to popular belief, using tap water is not harmful to you, but it can cause premature wear on your CPAP accessories, especially your water chamber.
Did you forget to buy demineralized water for your CPAP? Don’t worry! You can use tap or bottled water as a temporary solution. Just don’t be surprised if you see a thin white residue at the bottom and edges of your water chamber in the morning—that’s simply mineral buildup.
Make sure to clean your water chamber thoroughly to remove these residues, and don’t forget to pick up more demineralized water!
